    For 45 years, two murder victims in rural South Carolina were left unidentified. Police and the public were only able to refer to them as Jock and Jane Doe, making it nearly impossible to solve their crime. In 2021, thanks to advancements in DNA testing, the duo were finally given their names back. However, the 1976 murders of Pamela Buckley and James Freund are still unsolved today.     This week we’re diving into one of Indiana’s oldest cold cases. In 1950, high school teacher Garnet Ginn was found dead in her garage. Her body was discovered hanging from the handle of her car door. Police immediately wrote it off as suicide, ignoring glaring physical evidence including blood spatter at the scene. Garnet’s family refused to believe their daughter would take her own life. Thanks to an independent investigation from a local newspaper, Garnet’s death was later determined a homicide. To this day, it has never been solved.

    In 1989, Charles "Chip" Flynn was found shot in a Florida citrus grove. He had been hanging out with his ex-girlfriend, who claims the duo had been robbed and carjacked by a black man. Despite inconsistent details in what happened that night and an uncertain line-up, Kim Hallock identified Crosley Green as the alleged shooter. The state of Florida took the questionable case against Green and ran with it. They were determined to get "their guy" behind bars even if that meant coercing witnesses and failing to turn over evidence. Green spent decades in prison before his case was overturned.     In March of 1989, two employees at the Monical's Pizza in Danville, Illinois were closing up shop when a man came in for a last-minute order. The two staffers were then shot in the head and left for dead. Miraculously, one of the victims survived the shooting and would go on to identify and testify against his attacker. Thanks to one of our listeners, we know that the suspect was already in jail for an unrelated crime. Without that minor violation, it's likely this murder case would've gone unsolved.

On Valentine's Day in 1977, four men broke into a small Parke County mobile home, to carry out the heinous thrill killings now known as the Hollandsburg Massacre. Betty Jane Spencer was forced to lie on the ground next to four of her children as the men fired shots into their bodies. Spencer somehow managed to survive the brutal attack, share her story, and help put the killers behind bars.

  • 35. Witnessing a Federal Execution with Sarah Lehman 🄴

    Since 1963, 16 people have been sentenced to death and executed by the United States Federal Government. All 16 of those inmates were put to death at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. In 2019, The U.S. Government announced a moratorium on federal executions would end for the first in 17 years. As a result, 13 death row prisoners received lethal injection between July of 2020 and January of 2021. Sarah Lehman, a broadcast journalist in Terre Haute, witnessed and reported on 5 of those executions. In this episode Mallory does a one-on-one interview about the process of reporting on a rare event like this and the impact it has on the media covering these cases.

Cole Brings Plenty caught his big break when he was cast in the Yellowstone spin-off "1923". The 27-year-old was a member of the Mnicouju Lakota tribe; his Native American roots and beliefs play a big part in the investigation of his disappearance and death.     Today's episode is a cold case from Mallory's hometown of Lansing, Michigan... suggested by her 15-year-old, true crime-loving cousin. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

    41-year-old Bernita White was shot and killed outside of the Potter Park Zoo. To make things even worse, it was in front of her 5-year-old daughter. This shooting sets the public into a panic, especially after police reveal she was shot from literal YARDS away. No one saw the shooter. Law enforcement quickly narrows down the suspect list. At the very top, her husband, Artis White, a detective sergeant for the Michigan State Police. It all goes off the rails from there. Listen now! What do you think?
